World’s Largest Cave Is Over 5 Miles Long And Can Comfortably Fit A 747 Airplane

The Son Doong Cave is GIGANTIC, and that may even be an understatement. It’s actually the worlds largest cave. In 2009, a team of British cavers decided to investigate the Son Doong Cave. It’s located in a remote area of the Vietnamese jungle, so preparing for the unknown was crucial. When they first started exploring the cave, they ran into a 46 foot high wall made of muddy calcite. They nicknamed this wall, The Great Wall of Vietnam. Well now these cavers have returned, and they are prepared to climb The Great Wall of Vietnam, explore what else may lay inside this cave, and to also see if this has the potential to be the new world-record holder for largest cave. The pictures they took while in the cave are amazing.

The Son Doong Cave is the world’s largest cave. It’s located in Son Trach, Bo Trach District, Quang Binh province, Vietnam.

The Son Doong Cave is near the border of Laos and is part of a network of 150+ caves in the Annamite Mountains. There may be more caves but they have not been surveyed yet.

BBC News has said that the Son Doong Cave is one of the most beautiful caves in the world. It’s pretty hard to deny that with these pictures!

Limestone has eroded away under the mountain creating amazing, natural sky lights.

Even though they are in a cave, it certainly doesn’t feel like it all the time with the natural sunlight peeking through.

The Son Doong Cave is more than 656 feet wide, almost 500 feet high, and more than 5.5 miles long! Some of the caverns inside are big enough that you could fit an entire city street inside of them.

Not only do you have the beautiful cave, but the heavy jungle outside of the cave has started to move inside as well creating these beautiful forests inside the cave.

What an amazing view! I had no idea something this beautiful even existed.

The limestone inside has eroded away due to water damage, but has created beautiful designs found in the depths of the cave.

The openings of the Son Doong Cave are absolutely breathtaking!

Look at all of that lush jungle waiting for you outside of the opening.

This was taken inside of the cave, with all the jungle plants coming inside.

I can’t believe how massive this cave is! It’s almost unbelievable or something from a different planet.

There are many openings that lead into this gigantic cave.

This is called Ken Cave, but is also part of the Son Doong Cave.

Would this be somewhere you’d like to visit or do you think it’d be too eery? I’d love to see it but would worry that I’d get claustrophobic, although that might be hard because it’s so large!
